FILLINGS

There are two types of filling materials available.
  • 1) Tooth coloured filling
  • 2) Silver filling

Tooth coloured filling is made up of a nontoxic composite resin that can be exactly matched to your existing natural tooth colour. This material bonds to the tooth creating a tight, superior fit to the natural tooth. Composite resins are a better alternative because it is tooth coloured which helps to create a long lasting beautiful smile. Fortunately, silver fillings can safely be replaced with tooth coloured restorations.

Traditionally, people use to have Silver/ Amalgam fillings in their mouth. But there are many disadvantages of using it as it contains 50 percent of mercury, a highly toxic and harmful metal which causes minor to lethal following complications and hence avoided by the dentist now a days but still in some cases it is indicated.

  • The metal of a silver filling expands/ contracts, resulting in fracture of filling.
  • Discolouration of tooth.
  • Unaesthetically pleasing.
  • Spongy gums and bleeding teeth.
  • Tooth becomes loose in the socket.
  • Excessive salivation.
  • Digestive disturbances, psychological problems and asthma.
  • UK Department of Health issued a warning to pregnant women to avoid having dental amalgam fillings during pregnancy to avoid possible harm to foetus.

Root Canal Therapy

The tooth is made up of 2 parts: crown and root. The crown is what you see when you open your mouth. The root is below the gum line. The hard outer shell of crown is enamel which protects the underlying structures from getting infected by bacterial invasion.

The root canal is a hollow cavity within the tooth that houses the vital part of the tooth- the pulp. The pulp provides nutrition to the tooth via blood vessels and gives feeling to the tooth via nerves.

The root canal therapy is needed when the nerve of a tooth is affected by decay, infection or trauma. In order to save the tooth, the pulp and the decay is removed and the resulting space is filled with special, medicated dental materials, which restores the tooth to its full function.

Having a root canal on a tooth is the treatment of choice to save a tooth that otherwise would die and have to be removed. Many patients believe that removing a tooth that has problem is the solution, but what is not realized is that pulling out a tooth will ultimately be more costly and cause significant problems for adjacent teeth.

Some indications of the need for RCT:
  • An abscess (or pimple) on the gums.
  • Sensitivity to hot and cold.
  • Swelling and/ or tenderness.
  • Spontaneous pain or throbbing while biting.
  • discolouration of the tooth.
  • Severe pain during sleep.
Length of the treatment:

RCT can be done in one or more visits. It depends upon the situation. An uncomplicated RCT often can be completed in one visit. Once the RCT is finished, a crown or routinely known as cap on it is must to prevent the tooth from breaking in the future.

Dental Implant

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root placed into your jaw to hold a replacement crown in place. It looks, feels and functions like your own teeth. It is made up of highly biocompatible titanium metal.

If you are missing one tooth, an implant can be better than traditional Bridge work. Bridge requires the dentist to cut down both neighbouring healthy teeth for support. Dental Implant replaces only the missing tooth, preserving bone and keeping the neighbouring teeth healthy.

If you are missing more than one tooth, more dental implants are required. This technique eliminates the need for troublesome adhesives and uncomfortable metal clasps.

If you need full Dentures, then implant supported dentures is the best alternative. Traditionally, poorly fitting dentures impair the way you eat, the way you talk and the way you look. There is continuous bone resorption leading to irreversible facial changes. Dental Implants improves the comfort and stability of dentures.

Treatment Duration
Two stage dental implants: The replacement is completed in 2 stages which are spread over an interval of minimum 3 months. The first stage involves the placement of the implant and requires one to two sittings. The second stage involves the placement of the artificial crown.

One stage dental implant: Requires just one stage for the placement of implant and crown.

Braces

Anyone with irregular teeth, crowded teeth, overlapping teeth or one with gap in between should go for braces treatment. Irregular teeth are difficult to clean and may contribute too many problems like tooth decay, gum diseases, trauma to the soft tissues, bad odour and many more. Braces treatment improves your dental health by proper alignment which indeed can boost your self-esteem.

Braces treatment can be done at any age. Early diagnosis and treatment can guide erupting teeth and developing jaws into a more favourable position and shortens treatment time. It reduces the likelihood of fracturing protruded front teeth while playing. It may even provide advantages that are not available in the adulthood.

The treatment also helps eliminating bad habits like thumb sucking. It improves speech by correcting tongue position in mouth.

These are metal braces which are commonly used.

Dentures

There are 2 types-

Removable

A denture is a removable dental plate replacing missing teeth. They are made closely to resemble your natural teeth and may even enhance your smile. It improves your chewing, speech and digestion.

There are 2 types of removable dentures- 'Complete and Partial'. Complete dentures are used when all of the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth are missing. A partial denture not only fills in the spaces created by missing teeth, it prevents the other teeth from shifting.

A complete denture may be 'Conventional' or 'immediate'. A conventional denture is made after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has healed, usually taking 4-6 weeks. During this time, the patient will go without teeth. Immediate dentures are made in advance and immediately placed after the teeth are removed, thus preventing the patient from having to be without teeth during the healing process. Once the tissues shrink and heal, adjustments will have to be made.

Fixed

Another alternative is Implant supported denture that is supported by and attached to implants. It allows you to wear full or partial dentures without worrying that they will slip or fall out.

If the client dislikes the tattoo for any reason, it can be removed quickly and completely unlike body tattoos.

Crown And Bridge

Your smile is what makes you unique. Having a healthy and bright smile gives everyone a boost of confidence.

Dental Crowns are custom designed caps that fit over your existing tooth to increase its strength and restore the appearance and function of weak, misshapen or cracked teeth. A crown can improve the look of your smile and in many cases the people you meet won’t be able to find your crown from your natural teeth. Wanna have fabulous smile, Tattoo your crown.

Dental bridge get its name because it “bridge the gap” created by missing teeth. It uses crowns on either side of tooth gap to support false teeth which makes it easier to chew and prevents teeth from being misaligned. To maintain the shape of the face, avoid teeth misalignment and to alleviate stress on other teeth, it is important to have missing teeth replaced. Dental bridge can greatly improve the appearance and functionality of your smile.

The biggest disadvantage with dental bridge is the cut down of healthy neighbouring teeth to support missing teeth. But you can save healthy neighbouring teeth by dental implants.

Besides the Crown, veneers require minimum amount of tooth reduction and therefore are more conservative restoration. The result is the beautiful, natural looking smile that you are proud of.

Child Dentistry

As we know, ‘Prevention is better than cure’. At our office we are most concerned with all aspect of preventive care so that every child has the right to grow with a healthy smile. Our goal is to make your child’s experience as comfortable and positive as possible by creating a ‘child-friendly’ environment.

It is recommended that your child should see a dentist when the first tooth appears. Baby teeth are important as they not only hold space for the permanent teeth but are important for chewing, biting, speech and appearance. Parents play a vital role in the success of their child’s dental health by showing their interest, understanding and motivation towards them.

A milk tooth usually stays in until a permanent tooth underneath pushes it out and takes its place. Unfortunately, some children loose their milk tooth too soon. If this happens, the teeth beside it may move into the empty space resulting in the lack of space for the permanent tooth to erupt and hence leads to irregular arrangement of teeth. This can be prevented by an early visit to the dentist. We also provide treatment under sedation for mentally challenged and uncooperative children.

As the children’s permanent teeth erupts we provide fluoride and sealant treatment to prevent cavities. We also help children discontinue habits like tongue thrusting and thumb sucking by habit breaking appliances.

Gum Diseases

Did you ever have the feeling that people have avoided talking to you face to face? There is bleeding while you brush? Teeth that are sensitive to hot or cold? And many more problems like red, swollen, receding gums or mobile teeth?
The only culprits for these are bacteria seated in your gums.

Gum disease is an infection of the tissue surrounding and supported the teeth. It is a silent, chronic and painless infection that goes untreated or ignored until it has caused severe destruction. Other important factors affecting the health of your gums includes smoking, diabetes, stress, grinding teeth, medications, poor nutrition, etc.

Teeth cleaning: Do you want to keep your smile beautiful, white and healthy? Brush your teeth often, floss your teeth well and get your teeth cleaned professionally at the dentist every 6 months. Regular cleaning / scaling remove tartar that not only detract the luster of your teeth but also eats away your dental health.

Surgical: We offer conventional as well as laser gum disease treatment which is able to remove diseased, infected tissue around the teeth and help reduce bacteria. Laser gum therapy minimizes discomfort, controls bleeding and offers faster healing time than conventional surgical procedures. We also offer procedures such as flap surgery, tissue grafting and bone grafting to resolve more serious cases of gum diseases.

Gum Depigmentation

Dark gums can be embarrassing, but it no longer has to deter you from showing off your smile!!!
An unforgettable smile requires beautiful teeth, healthy gums and the perfect ratio of each.

Gum depigmentation is the procedure used to remove the black spots / patches on the gums caused by many factors. Most commonly, discolouration occurs due to build up of melanin in the gum tissue. Smoking is thought to be a factor that can cause or worsen the appearance of the gums with black spots. Certain medications and gum disease may cause gum discolouration to develop as well.

With the latest buzzword in the field of dentistry, we use lasers for gum depigmentation.

People usually grind their teeth to relieve stress, anxiety or frustration. Improper alignment of teeth is also one of the cause.

Grinding and clenching the teeth can cause jaw pain and headaches, aside from damaging your teeth. It is a very significant cause of tooth loss and receding gums.

In order to treat the problem, it is advisable for the people to wear night guards during sleep to prevent tooth damage. Botox injection is also an excellent treatment for teeth grinding. Apart from this, reducing stress is also very important. Regular exercise and meditation is recommended for reducing the stress.
